Adele's previous album covers are both very dark and use minimalistic colours. The song for our music video 'Melt My Heart To Stone' was originally on Adele's first album, which you can see below. You can see the use of shadows on the face, and the colour theme of browns and black. The text on the image is very basic, you can see that Adele's name is capitalized in a logo format, and is a very basic font such as Times New Roman.
The other album cover '21' is also very dark, it focuses on Adele's face as she looks down, this creates a emotional atmosphere. However, this new cover is in a black and white colour scheme and uses a different font. Again the font is very basic, and is used across all of the new single cover too, which incorporate both green and white colours.
Recently there as been a selection of new remixes of Adele songs by "Urban Noize". These include Melt my heart to stone ft. Kanye West and Won't Go ft. Jay-Z.
As you can see in these album covers they both have a "green theme' which uses a greenish background and a green font. The photos are generally quite dark and are high contrast emphasizing the shadows on the artists. This is important to note for our own DVD/digipack cover.
This analysis of Adele's album covers and their minimalist, dark themes provides valuable insight into how to design a DVD cover and magazine cover that will resonate with her audience. Combining this with Kanye West’s remixes brings a fresh layer to the design, especially with the introduction of green tones.
