Music Video Analysis: Someone Like You

Since choosing our song for the music video Adele has released a new music video for "Someone Like You". It's been an incredibly popular song around the world. The lyrics refer to loving someone who has now left her and has a happy life with someone else, Adele wishes that she had stayed with him.

The video has been filmed in a dark greyscale filter which reminds me of high contrat photography by Richard Avedon or William Klein. This gives a raw; old fashioned effect to the video. The actual video/narrative itself simply shows Adele walking the old streets of London, which links to our video, along with looking over a bridge towards the River Thames. During the video I suspect that the narrative is showing Adele think about the man that left her, and if she could find "Someone Like You". The audience are forced to think more about the emotion and message of the song, and is one reason why the video is so simple and old fashioned.

The video also features a shot in a reflective window at the end, which is incredibly similar to our idea of the mirror at the beginning. You will notice in the last few seconds of the music video that there are closeups of Adele's eye and this reflections. There are screenshots below to further explain.

High contrast shot - reminds me of Richard Avedon
